St. Vincent Clay Hospital recently celebrated National Volunteer Week with its annual volunteer luncheon.

The hospital's volunteers were invited to come in for the annual meeting, following by the lunch and awards presentation, which was set up to acknowledge them for their hours of service for the 2007-08 year.

This year, the 21 volunteers logged 2,567 hours of service to the hospital, mostly in the gift shop, but also helping with other activities.

"The volunteers are a part of the foundation of the hospital," hospital volunteer coordinator Jennifer French said. "With this being our 80th anniversary since the Clay County Hospital building opened, the 'blue smock ladies' are as recognizable as the building itself.

"We want to make sure we show our gratitude for those people who give to the community on behalf of the hospital and our volunteers do just that."
