John was born to Michael and Mabel Greenwalt Zentko, Carbon, on April 26, 1920.
He served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army and was a coal miner employed by Victory Mine.
He also worked at Pell's roofing for more than 25 years. John attended Emmanuel Baptist Church, Seelyville. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, watching NASCAR and spending time with family.
Preceding John in death were his parents, brothers Mike, Howard, Tom and Bernard Zentko, sister Ann Clements, infant son John Robert Zentko Jr., grandson Jonathan Emery Parsons and great-granddaughter Gracie Ann Harrison.
He is survived by sons Terry Zentko, Brazil, and Daryl Zentko, Terre Haute, daughters Michelle Dorsch and husband Thomas, Indianapolis, Teresa Parsons and husband Doyne, Champlin, Minn., and Betty Hammans, Brazil, Stanley Knowles, Terre Haute, grandchildren Kristi Coffin and husband Mike, Terry Cotton, Amanda Johnson and husband Andrew, Briana Parsons, Autumn Harrison and husband Dan, Sabrina Parsons and Tammy Zentko, Monica, Emily and Kaitlyn Dorsch, great-grandchildren Tiffany and Bailey Deakins, Delaney, Devin, Myca and D.J. Coffin, Lauren and Allison Cotton, Corey Sanchez, Matthew, Noah and Hannah Johnson, and Joshua Harrison, sisters Mary Goodwin, Greenwood, and Jean Tauber and Margaret Merrick, both of Terre Haute, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will take place at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at French Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doyne Parsons and Pastor Joe Gregory officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., today, and again Wednesday before the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
