TERRE HAUTE -- Clay City High School students showcased their academic skills by reaping state and regional honors in its enrollment division of this year's Junior Engineering Technical Society's TEAMS competition.

The team tied for third place in the Indiana competition after placing first in the Wabash Valley exam.

This year's theme, coinciding with the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was "Behind the Scenes: Athletic Events." Teams of eight students came up with a variety of solutions for traffic flow and security issues, the design of venues and facilities and even to the sports themselves, such as how aerodynamic principles may be applied to soccer or baseball to increase performance and gain a competitive edge. The three-hour competition took place at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Clay City's varsity score tied with Kouts High School for third-place among Indiana schools having senior enrollments between 51 and 150 students. Wheeler High School was first in the division, while Westview High School placed second.

Members of Clay City's JETS team included seniors Brandon Blackburn, Andrew Nicoson, and Dale Stoops, in addition to juniors Colton Johnson and Hunter Lavoine. The team was coached by Patricia Gregory.
