Baseball Eels get pair of homers in win over Eagles

CLAY CITY -- The Clay City baseball team heads into postseason next week on a winning note, blasting visiting South Putnam, 14-4 on Tuesday evening.

D.J. Newton allowed a three-run outburst by the Eagles in the first inning, but settled down to allow just one more run over the next four plus innings before Ryne Hayes came in to finish off the victory that went just six innings due to the 10-run rule.

Matt Vansickle went 2-for-4 in the game with a home run and three RBI for the Eels and Will Kennedy added a home run and also drove home three teammates. Hayes had a double at the plate for Clay City.

The Eels improve to 12-5 overall this year and host West Vigo on Thursday evening at 5 p.m.
