MONTGOMERY -- The 2008 golf season came to an end for the Northview Knights on Thursday at Country Oaks Golf Course.

Windy conditions and slick greens made scoring well difficult for many local golfers including the Knights who placed 10th out of the 12-team field with a 370.

Terre Haute South's Braves will continue their season after tying with Jasper's 323. The Wildcats won the regional title based on their fifth golfer's better score.

Evansville North joins the two schools in qualifying for the IHSAA State Finals to be played on The Legends Course in Franklin beginning on Tuesday.

Northview struggled nearly top to bottom in its lineup with Daniel Eaglin leading the team with a round of 89. Matt Williams added a 91, Ryan Turner a 93, Drew Snyder shot a 97 and Kade Baker shot a 102 to round out the Knights' scoring.

Strong winds played a pivotal role in many of the larger scores.

Winds gusted between 25 and 40 miles per hour during Thursday's regional.

The par-5 12th hole proved to be one of the most difficult for all of the golfers, including Northview.

Playing at nearly 500 yards and with a fairway bordered on the leftside by water, two Knights registered a score of nine on the hole with two others shooting eight. Only Eaglin was able to escape mostly unscathed with a six.

Terre Haute South was led by Phillip Myers who was low medalist with a 75 and freshman Thomas Goss carded a 77 to pace the Braves.

Linton's George Fritch shot an 87 to guide the Miners to a ninth-place finish with a 365. West Vigo's Evan Miller qualified from the sectional as an individual and wrapped his high school career with an 86 with John Pollock of Terre Haute North shooting an 89 and the Sullivan duo of Nick Doffing and John Gilham carding a 97 and a 98 respectively.

The state finals begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday with admission set at $5 per person. The top nine teams from Tuesday's first round and any team within 12 strokes of the lead advance to Wednesday's second round.
