Marching Knights already preparing for next year

If you live near Northview High School, you can hear the beating of the drums radiating from the drum line and see splashes of color in the air from Guard as they toss their flags.

On June 2, the Marching Knights and Guard began practicing around the NHS campus.

Even band practice has taken a new turn this summer with the rising gas prices.

Wednesdays will be a day of rest with no practice and their meeting on Thursdays will be the full band for a double practice session.

"We have staff that drive all the way from Indianapolis and parents that live in the country and we are trying to help them out," Band Director Bob Medworth said, "We can practice longer on Thursday to save them some money. This is my job and my life so it is OK, and others do this because they love it."

With a small change in marching techniques, band members are learning to be more efficient in their routines.

"In the big scheme of things, last year's show was a little longer than what we had planned," Medworth said "This year's goal is to have the music and show a little shorter so the kids don't have so much to learn."

The next Band Booster meeting is Monday, June 16, at 7 p.m.
