Soldier, wife found dead

Friday, June 6, 2008

FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- The United States Army has identified two former Clay County residents who apparently died Tuesday morning at the Fort Wainwright military base in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Spc. Benjamin Bays, 23, and his wife, Faith, 22, both from Brazil, were found dead in their residence around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Military authorities waited to officially release the identity of the couple until Thursday, after notification of relatives.

Joining the Army in March 2005, Bays has been stationed at Fort Wainwright since August 2005 as a radio operator with the 28th Military Police Detachment.

An official cause of the death has yet to be determined for the couple, and preliminary autopsy results are not expected for another week.

Further details are not available due to the ongoing military investigation by Army officials.
