Parts of I-70 reopened, other roads still closed

Sunday, June 8, 2008

Eastbound lanes of Interstate-70 have reopened for traffic.

Westbound lanes continue to be closed at this time as the Indiana Department of Transportation hopes to reopen them later today.

Other roads in Clay County that remain closed at this time are:

* State Road 42, west of SR 59 and west of Poland,

* SR 46 at Bowling Green,

* SR 246 at Eel River Bridge, and

* SR 59, south of Clay City, at Eel River Bridge.

Also, residents should expect heavy traffic and delays on United States 40 due to traffic being diverted from I-70.

In case anybody is wondering..I-70 is closed again!!! WTHR out of Indy reports, "The opening of I-70 is undetermined, but a substantial delay is again expected. Repairs are set to begin early Monday, June 9, 2008." The report went on to say, "The roadway began to collapse after emergency repairs were conducted today from previous erosion due to flooding."

As of 0500 Monday (9 June) morning, I-70E was open to traffic. I saw all westbound traffic was being rerouted at Exit 41 (Cloverdale/Greencastle) through Brazil and back down SR 59 to I-70. I drive to Indianapolis every day.
