Daniel Joseph "Joe" Mathis, 37, Brazil, died following a motor vehicle accident in Vermillion County near Clinton, Ind.

He was born Oct. 17, 1970, as the son of Danny Joe Mathis and Christina Moore. He served his county as a member of the U.S. Marine Corp and had been employed as a truck driver with area companies including Roadway, Yellow Freight and EH Hamilton. He was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and a member of Teamsters Local Union No. 716.

He was preceded in death by his father, Danny Joe Mathis, his grandparents, Ruth and Henry Mathis, an uncle, Gene Herron, great aunt, Christina Stough, an aunt, Janet Moore and great-grandparents, Katherine and Jay Biggs.

He is survived by his mother, Christina Sneddon, Brazil, one brother, Sam Sneddon, grandparents, Bob and Kathleen Moore, one uncle, Robert "Bobby" Moore, three cousins, Jay Moore and his wife Shannon, Jason Moore and John Moore and his wife Kelli, stepfather William "Bill" Sneddon and great uncle, Phillip Moore and his wife Susan.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Thursday, June 12, at Moore Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Brazil. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clay County Humane Society, 8280 N. County Road 125 W, Brazil, IN, 47834.
