Poll: Readers split on Festival

Sunday, June 15, 2008

A total of 301 readers responded to The Brazil Times' recent online poll regarding the upcoming Fourth of July Festival.

The Times asked its online readers, "Are you looking forward to the annual Fourth of July Festival?"

The festival is sponsored by the Brazil Rotary Club.

Readers were given three options to choose from regarding the question, including:

* I can't wait for the festivities to begin,

* I'm sort of looking forward to it, or

* No thanks. I'll pass.

Of the 301 readers that responded, 132 (43.9 percent) said they did not have plans to attend the festival.

A total of 88 readers (29.2 percent) said they could not wait for the festivities while a total of 81 readers (26.9 percent) said they were sort of looking forward to it.

Thirteen readers also commented regarding the poll question.

One reader stated, "With high gas prices, I am sure they will raise all their prices on games, tickets and anything else, so it will be a toss up if the county really shows much interest like in past years," while another reader said, "It wouldn't be the fourth without all the hoopla."

Another reader said, "This is a great event for our citizens in Brazil. Some folks can't take a plane, train or auto trip and stay in a hotel/motel not to mention food and now the high rate of gas. Many in the Brazil city and areas around look forward to this event every year. A lot of folks save their pennies to spend on rides and food every night. It also is a time to see old friends and hear and see great entertainment. Call me a redneck if you need to, but I enjoy this event," and another reader said, "Clay County's Fourth of July festival(s) are the best in the valley!"

The Times' current poll question deals with the recent flooding the area witnessed. The Times is asking its readers, "How much damage did your home receive from the recent flood?"

Readers are given four options to choose from, including:

* None,

* A minimal amount,

* We had to rip out the floor, or

* We're going to have to gut the house and start over.

As always, readers have the opportunity to comment regarding the poll.
