The weeks are ticking away to the Breast Cancer 3-Day National marathon in Chicago, Ill., on Aug. 8-10, and a local team is gearing up.
"We are still walking away," Bra-Zil Billies Team Captain Amy Reynolds told The Brazil Times recently. "We're just a few weeks away from the 'big walk' of 60 miles in three days to help fight breast cancer. As a team, we have raised more than 40 percent of our $6,600 team goal."
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund sponsors the event in 14 cities across the country.
"We now have two locations of walkers," Reynolds said. "One group meets Mon., Wed. and Fri. in front of the pool at 6 p.m., while the other meets at Harmony Park on Mon.-Fri. at 7 p.m."
Reynolds said all of the donations collected would be donated toward fighting breast cancer, "one step at a time."
Although life has a tendency to sometime interfere with the workouts, the team is excited about their progress.
"We still have a ways to go, but I know we will get there," Reynolds said. "This is a wonderful cause, worth every penny spent and every step taken."
