Edward F. Blair, 87, Loogootee, died at 10:15 a.m., Thursday, June 19, 2008, at his residence.
Born Oct. 1, 1920, in Corbin, Ind., in Clay County, he was the son of Oliver J. and Blossom Loughmiller Blair.
He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He later served in the Indiana National Guard, Brazil Armory.
He retired in 1980 after working 30 years at Allison Division of General Motors, Indianapolis, and was a member of the UAW Local 933. He was a member of the Loogootee Christian Church, Brazil Indiana Fraternal Order of Masons and the Loogootee American Legion.
He was married on Dec. 8, 1941, to Virginia Short Blair. She preceded him in death.
He married his second wife, Betty Jones Dove, on Jan. 11, 2008.
Survivors include his wife Betty Jones Dove Blair, Loogootee, daughter Jeannie Bryant, Avon, son Edward P. Blair, Brownsburg, stepdaughter Aleva Lucas, Loogootee, brothers George Blair, Danville, and David Blair, Casey, Ill., sisters Grace Walker, Plainfield, and Violet McGoun, Plainfield, eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Blossom Blair, his first wife Virginia Short Blair on Aug. 5, 1996, daughters Virginia Ann Tylor and Deanna Reagin, grandson Michael Dickison, brother John Blair, sisters Charity Schnurpel and Rose Foxworth, stepson Robert Dove and step-grandson Christopher Dove.
Services will take place at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at the Loogootee Christian Church. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
There will be military graveside services conducted by the American Legion and V.F.W.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m., Monday, at the Brocksmith Funeral Home, Loogootee.
