Sunday, June 22, 2008

A Brazil City Fire Department firefighter was injured after battling a blaze at Cooper Towers, 120 W. Jackson St., Brazil, Saturday evening.

Firefighters were dispatched to the apartment complex close to 7:30 p.m., Saturday.

BCPD officials said an trash compactor inside the complex on the first floor caught fire and a few of the nine floors were evacuated due to smoke inside the building.

No residents were injured as a result of the fire.

However, the firefighter, whose name was not disclosed, sustained minor injuries to a hand while fighting the blaze.

Officials said the fire is still under investigation.
