According to information provided by the Indiana State Police, Larry L. Newton, 40, Clay City, Ind., has been charged with sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class B felony and is being held in jail on a $30,000 with 10 percent acceptable
The victim told a family member about the incident Saturday evening, June 21, who immediately contacted the Clay City Police and the Clay County Sheriff's Department.
Because the incident took place outside of Clay County, the ISP Criminal Investigation Division at the Terre Haute Post was contacted shortly after midnight Sunday to assist with an investigation alleging sexual misconduct at Newton's business End of The Trail Tack and Feed, 609 W. Broadway St., Shelburn, Ind.
At the time of the alleged incident in May 2007, Newton is alleged to have fondled a 15-year old juvenile, exposed himself and performed sexual deviate conduct on the victim. Officials confirm there are no other alleged incidents before or after the May 2007 incident.
Further details are unavailable due to the ongoing investigation by ISP Det. Sgt. Troy Stanton, ISP Trooper Shilo Raulston, Clay County Sheriff's Det. Jeff Maynard, members of the Clay City Police Department and the Indiana Department of Child Services.
yeah, hes a piece of work. i personaly know him. the victim is my sister. (his step daughter). And the mother (my mother regedally) is letting him back into the house with the victim and 2 other underage children. This is outrageous!
How typical to automatically BLAME THE VICTIM!
This is a very unsophisticated and backward area. Police have to have evidence of a substantial nature to make an arrest. What a low life this guy is!
You're right on the mark Emmes and did the article say that the victim was a female? Let's not forget that abuse on boys also happens and that often puts even greater pressure on a boy to not come forward because of the even more intense shame. Don't get me wrong girls feel the same intensity too, but I believe it's harder for boys to come forward right away.
I'm sure those who knew other pedophiles said the same thing about them. "They seemed normal." That's because outwardly THEY ARE. They are very discrete, cautious .. ask any of the police who apprehend them.
I agree that this incident should be fully investigated. Why did the girl wait for over a year to report this??
No way...I went to school with Larry, though he was a little different, he wasn't desperate. Tread lightly and be sure she is not lying.
Well I hope she contacted them quick enough, if she did there would still be evidence. I dont think anyone should do jail time for something like this unless there is evidence of some kind proving he did it.
