ROCKVILLE -- Parke Players will conduct signups for the fourth annual Ritz Follies Monday, June 30 through Tuesday, July 1, at 7 p.m., at the Ritz Theater, Rockville.
The 208 Ritz Follies will be presented Saturday, Aug. 2, at 8 p.m., at the theater, located west of the square on United States 36 in Rockville.
The first Follies event was presented July 30, 2005, by a lineup of more than a dozen of entertainers. Singers, dancers, musicians, actors and puppeteers all provided entertainment to help raise funds for the ongoing restoration of the theater, built in 1912 as the New Rockville Opera House.
The two subsequent follies events have drawn larger crowds as the annual event grows in popularity.
This year, the proceeds from the event will go toward the recent replacement of the theater's 60-year old Simplex XL projector.
Anyone wishing to participate in the 2008 Ritz Follies should attend the signup dates. The signup evenings are not auditions but organizational screenings for placement in the production and to confirm that a proposed performance is not inappropriate. Those interested may pick up a signup sheet in advance at the Ritz during regular business hours or wait until the signup dates to fill one out.
More information will appear on the Parke Players website at www.parkeplayers.com in the future.
This year's production will feature popular regional club act Wildfire as a house band to accompany any of the singers that wish to perform any of the three dozen vintage rock and roll, blues and country songs in their repertoire. Otherwise, those wishing to participate need to supply their favorite music background CD or live musicians for their accompaniment.
The Ritz Theater's art facility will enable most inexperienced participants to present themselves in a professional setting.
