On Monday, Firefighters Union Local 1453 President Jake Bennett presented former Brazil City Councilman Jim Sheese with an award on behalf of city firefighters for his support during the past 20 years at its monthly meeting. The group felt that Sheese's efforts to help maintain safe working conditions, increasing the department membership, improving and adding equipment and openly rejecting layoffs needed recognized. "Jim has worked tirelessly and been a great supporter of the needs of this department and the firefighters," Bennett said while presenting a golden axe to Sheese. "The entire union voted unanimously to give him this award in January and it's an honor for me to thank him for his efforts."
