Viola G. Messmer, 103, Huntingburg, Ind., died at 8 p.m., Monday, July 7, at St. Charles Health Campus, Jasper, Ind.

She was born Nov. 22, 1904, in Huntingburg, to Ferdinand and Rose (Klueh) Woerter.

She married Clement Messmer Oct. 6, 1925, in Huntingburg.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Ladies Sodality, Ferdinand Daughters of Isabella and V.F.W. Post No. 2366 Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clement on Sept. 4, 1973, daughter Suzann Schiewer on June 8, 2003, brothers Carl, Hubert, Albert Rudolph and Raymond Woerter, sisters Mary McCormick and Pauline Mundy, one granddaughter, one grandson, one great-granddaughter and one great-great-grandson.

She is survived by daughter Patricia Seckinger, St. Meinrad, Ind., sons Paul R. Messmer, Jasper, Bernard Messmer, Jasper, and Steven Messmer, Brazil, 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass for Viola G. Messmer will take place at 2 p.m. (EDT), Friday, July 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Huntingburg, with Father Pius Klein officiating. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation is set for 2-8 p.m., Thursday, and 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Friday, at Nass and Son Funeral Home, Huntingburg.

A parish rosary will take place at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, with the Ladies Sodality and the D of I memorial service immediately following. The V.F.W. Post No. 2366 will conduct a memorial service at 6 p.m., Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church or to a favorite charity.
