LAWRENCEBURG -- Jeff Bland Jr. of Springville, Ind. led the first seven and the last six laps to score an upset victory in Wednesday night's 30-lap Chevy Powers "Indiana Sprint Week" feature at the Lawrenceburg Speedway. The win was his first ever in USAC National Sprint Car competition. He started on the pole but was running second to Robert Ballou on lap 25 when Jon Stanbrough blew a tire on the backstretch. During the yellow Ballou's car developed a flat tire and he had to restart at the back of the field, putting Bland and his Servia Drywall/Servpro DRC/Chevy into the lead. He was trailed to the checkered flag by Levi Jones, Damion Gardner, Shane Cottle and Dave Darland. Chevy Powers "Indiana Sprint Week" continues Thursday night with the "Robbie Stanley Classic" at Lawrenceburg.

Bland, in only his second season in a sprint car, has quickly made a splash and Thursday's victory is top accomplishment to date, besting 47 other sprinters.

Bland qualified eighth-quick in the field as Levi Jones stopped the clock quickest with a track record time of 12.926, which translates into nearly 105 miles per hour. Tracy Hines clocked second, ahead of Cory Kruseman.

In heat race action, Jerry Coons Jr. topped the first heat ahead of Thomas Meseraull. Jimmy Light was able to walk away following a nasty flip that brought out a red flag stoppage.

Dave Darland was followed by Hunter Scheurenberg in the second race while Brady short and Darren Hagen went 1-2 in the third, 10-lap event. Brady Bacon was able to edge out Jamestown's Jon Stanbrough in the final heat race.

Kruseman flipped in the third heat.

In the B-Main, Tracy Hines won to receive a transfer to the feature with Neil Shepherd, Brad Sweet and Jones each making the field. Ted Hines brought out the red with his flip.

Action continued with night number two at Lawrenceburg on Thursday with the series traveling to Gas City I-69 Speedway this evening and Saturday followed by Kokomo on Sunday.
