James Shorter, 49, Brazil, passed away, July 17, 2008, at Regional Hospital, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born May 10, 1959, in Brazil, to Robert and Mary "Dixie" (Davis) Shorter.
He graduated from Brazil High School in 1977. Jim served his country in the United States Army and Army National Guard for more than 20 years. During his military career, he worked as a truck driver and served on a competition rifle team.
He also worked at Indiana Department of Correction at Putnamville, as a prison guard for 19 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and collecting coins.
He was preceded in death by his father and nephews Joshua Shorter and Chad Shorter.
He is survived by his mother Dixie Shorter, sons Matthew Shorter and wife Sarah, and Raymond Shorter, grandson Levi Shorter, brothers David Shorter and wife Brenda, and Mark Shorter and wife Vicki, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2008, with Pastors Greg Puttmann and Tim Voll officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, from 4-8 p.m., Monday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
