Samuel E. Hillenburg, 67, Monrovia, formerly of Brazil, died at 11:45 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at his residence, following an extended illness.

He was born Aug. 8, 1940, in Brazil, to George P. and Mary Ruth Hillenburg.

He joined the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War.

He also served in the Indiana National Guard until his honorable discharge.

He worked as a union steward for the Bricklayers Local 4 unit until his retirement.

He was preceed in death by his parents and sister Ronda K. Johnson.

Survivors include his wife Julia, daughters Tawny L. Hillenburg, Indianapolis, Roxanne Goff and husband Vernon, California, son Samuel E. Hillenburg Jr., Clearwater, Fla., grandchildren Rachel Hardman and Ryan Wilson, four great-grandchildren, sister Georgia Day and husband Steve, Brazil, and brother John William Hillenburg and wife Kimberly, Brazil.

Cremation services were provided. At his request, no services were scheduled.
