According to information provided by the Clay County Sheriff's Department, an anonymous tipster informed officials that Joanna Michelle Britton, 34, Brazil, was a passenger in a pick-up truck at Burger King.
Paul Lee Ray, 33, Indianapolis, and Britton were preparing to leave the area when they were stopped and detained by officials.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found a gun inside and that the ignition was "punched." It was later determined that the truck had been reported stolen from Indianapolis area.
Ray was taken into custody and transported to Clay County Justice Center where he was booked on preliminary charges of possession of stolen property, having an unlicensed weapon and being a habitual traffic violator.
Jail officials confirmed Ray remained incarcerated at the jail on a $7,000 cash bond with no 10 percent allowed to await formal arraignment per the court schedule.
Britton was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant from Clay Superior Court for failing to appear in court for two previous alleged charges of welfare fraud and identity deception. Upon arrival at the jail, the additional preliminary charge of unauthorized entry of an auto was added during the booking process.
Jail officials confirmed Britton remained incarcerated at the jail without bond due to the warrant arrest. She will appear in Clay Superior Court to answer for the warrant per the court schedule.
Officials said the ongoing investigation and case review by the Clay County Prosecutor's Office could potentially lead to further charges in the future.
