MANSFIELD -- The Mansfield Village Watermelon Festival will take place Aug. 9-10.
The annual event includes several activities for those of all ages.
The Mansfield Idol singing competition will begin at 1 p.m. under the pavilion on Mansfield Park. Participants in two age groups (youth and adult) will compete for the title, cash prizes and a chance to sing their winning song at Mansfield Parke events during the next year.
Sunday, Aug. 10, will begin with a church service that will take place at the Creekside Chapel with free entertainment on the deck overlooking the waterfalls.
Those interested in attending should attend the Mansfield Village Welcome Center, located downtown, for complete information about the weekend events, which will also include watermelon seed spitting and watermelon eating contests.
Those attending will also have the opportunity to browse village shops and vendors will be set up throughout town. Free tours of the Mansfield Roller Mill will also be available.
Campers are invited to stay at Mansfield Parke for $12 an evening, which includes electric and access to restrooms and shower houses.

Mansfield Village is located on State Road 59 in southern Parke County, six miles south of State Road 36.
