For years, Ostan Wyndham honed his skills at both Forest Park Golf and Oak Ridge Golf Courses while residing in Brazil.
On August 2, Wyndham competed in his first Long Drivers of America golf competition in Lebanon, Ohio. The current Terre Haute resident competed in the qualifying round of the Remax Long Drive Competition, which consisted of hitting six balls into a 40-yard wide grid as far as possible.
Wyndham posted drives of 315 and 320 during the first round before mashing a 404-yard drive that gave him the lead for good.
The win in the qualifier propels him into the regional, also to be held in Ohio. Wyndham will be competing against long drivers from all over the eastern half of the country.
Wyndham now calls the Fore Seasons Golf Complex, located behind the Honey Creek Mall, his practice home where he practices five days a week in preparation for the regional competition. If Wyndham makes it out of regionals and into the national finals held Oct. 20-25. The finals, held in Mesquite, NV, features a record purse of $600,000 with the open champion taking home $250,000, by far the largest payday in the sport's history. ESPN will debut a 90-minute tournament recap during the Christmas holidays.
