"Officers responded to the report of a pipe bomb explosion at a home around 2:30 a.m.," Brazil City Police Chief Terry Harrison told The Brazil Times.
According to Harrison, Sgt. Dennis Archer and Patrolmen John Goldner and Jeffery Bucklin II responded to the residence located at 504 Edgewood Dr.
Harrison said Kenneth Roberts and his family were home at the time of the explosion, but no injuries were reported although the window was blown out.
The Indiana State Police were contacted to process the crime scene and collect evidence.
Harrison said the fragments of the explosive device led investigators to believe the materials were consistent with a crude homemade pipe bomb.
Officials are requesting that anyone in the Edgewood area between the hours of 2-2:30 a.m. who might have seen anything suspicious, contact the Brazil City Police Department at 446-2211.
"We believe it was intentionally put in the window and it was not a random act," Harrison said. "It did a lot of damage. If someone would have been standing next to that window they could have been seriously hurt, or even killed. Anyone with information about this incident needs to report it."
