Richard Harry Clark, 84, lifelong resident of Clay County, went home to be with the Lord at 6:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, following a brief illness.
Born Oct. 27, 1923, he was the only child of Harry and Mary Ann (Pell) Clark.
He attended Harmony and Van Buren schools in his youth, spending his early years in the northern part of Harmony.
In 1949, he and his parents moved south on Harmony Road to the family farm. In 1954, he and his dad built the house he lived in for his new bride, Ruth.
On Nov. 13, 1954, he was united in marriage to Ruth Helen Myers and they spent 35 years together before her death on June 26, 1990. His parents also preceded him in death.
Richard worked various jobs, including R&L Trucking Co., as a truck driver and high-lift operator. He also farmed for his late cousin, John H. Riddell.
He loved the outdoors and working in his yard. Watching and feeding wildlife was a favorite pastime of his. He also loved old vintage planes and cars.
Surviving him are his daughter Darleen Clark and his faithful little companion Rat Terrier, Zipp, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
At his request, cremation will take place. Graveside services with burial of ashes will be at Calcutta Cemetery, Saturday, Aug. 16, with Rev. Bill Price officiating.
