She was born Oct. 19, 1914, in Bowling Green, as the daughter of John F. and Nell Cullen Hoffa. Following graduation from Bowling Green High School she went on to graduate from Indiana State University where she later earned her Masters Degree. She was employed for many years as an elementary school teacher. She married James Schopmeyer on July 18, 1937. They were married for 57 years. James has preceded Ruth in death. She was a member of the Washington Twp. Circle and Women's Gulid and the Zion United Church of Christ in Poland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James and one son, Richard Schopmeyer.
She is survived by two sons, David Schopmeyer and wife Nellye, Center Point, and Ivan Schopmeyer and wife Reta, Poland, nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and sister, Martha Hoffa, Spanish Fork, Utah.
Moore Funeral Home was chosen to provide funeral services. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Zion United Church of Christ, Poland. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the church with Pastor Lynn James officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery.
