TERRE HAUTE -- Following a shutout defeat on the road at Cascade Monday evening, the Northview girls' soccer team got their offense going just in time for a 5-1 win over Western Indiana Conference opponent West Vigo on Wednesday.
Jenny Woodcox scored four goals to propel the victorious Northview effort.
The Knights got on the scoreboard early in the game as Woodcox took a Carlee Bell feed to get Northview on the board, 1-0.
Just five minutes later it was Bell's turn to score when she found the back of the net on a breakaway attempt. Just one minute later, Woodcox added a second goal, scoring off a deflection to push the lead to 3-0.
Tiffany Young played solid defense from her sweeper position according to coach Tony Alstott.
"We moved Cayla Yockey to offense which put a lot of pressure on Young," said Alstott. "But Young did an outstanding job."
Young had three steals to top the Knights' defensive players.
The Vikings were able to get on the board with seven minutes left in the first half on a corner kick to narrow the lead, but the Knights answered before the half concluded on another goal by Woodcox, this one assisted by Yockey.
In the second half, Woodcox finished her scoring onslaught with seven minutes to go.
On the defensive half of the ball, Lauren Webster had a pair of steals and both Ashleigh Lehr and Ashley Clarke added one each.
Against Cascade, Northview was unable to find the net in a 3-0 loss to the Cadets. Rachel Alstott had eight saves for the Knights and Stormi Raines added two steals.
"We just could not generate any offense which put most of the pressure on the defense," said Alstott. "Bethany Wright had her first varsity start and played solidly at fullback."
The Knights (1-2 overall) travel to Danville on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 5 p.m.
