John Alwyn Lawson, 61, Brazil, died at 8:45 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 17, 1947, in Clay County, as the son of Jack R. and Doreen Bullimore Lawson.

He graduated from Cory High School with the class of 1965.

He loved playing basketball as a member of the Cory High School team.

He served in the United States Army 1st Air Cav during the Vietnam War from 1967-68, earning the U.S. Army Air Medal and the Bronze Star Medal.

He married his high school sweetheart, June Anne Tiefel, June 3, 1971, at Mt. Calvary Church.

John was employed for 35 years at the Newport Chemical Depot. John was a compassionate "fix-it" man and enjoyed working in his garage. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, June Anne Lawson, daughters Amy Lumsdon and husband Andy, and Sara Rounds and husband Brad, all of Brazil, grandchildren Drew and Emma Lumsdon, and Seth and Rachel Rounds, sisters Patricia Murphy and husband George, and Betty Whittington and husband Andy, and other extended family.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., today, at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, with Pastor John Holwerda officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Van Cleve Cemetery, west of Center Point.
