Preparing for a hectic schedule next week, Northview's girls' golf team finished this week with a second-place finish in a three-way meet with Terre Haute South and Terre Haute North at Forest Park Golf Course.

The Knights have four matches next week, including the Western Indiana Conference Tourney at Cascades Golf Course, so on Thursday evening, a confidence building round was timely.

The young squad got just that on their home course and despite a runner-up finish to the rival Braves, coach Josh Trout saw plenty of things to build on.

"I thought we played very well," said Trout. "I think when we play tough opponents that we tend to rise to the occasion. Terre Haute North and South have good teams."

The Knights got a low medalist effort from Olivia Oehler, who carded a 42, and a balanced team effort as Mandy Thomlinson shot a 43 and Savanah Pursell added a 44.

Trout was perhaps just as excited by what he hopes is a break out round by Alli Trout, who shot a 48 for Northview.

"I'm really proud of Alli," said her coach following the match. "Hayley (Miller) also came through for us to get that fourth score."

Miller also shot a 48 and provided the team with the final score of their team score of 177.

The Braves shot a 160 and were topped by a round of 36 from Kelsey Fuqua and the Terre Haute North Patriots shot 189 and got rounds of 39 from Rachel Welker and Hanna Curley.

The Knights also got a 56 from Shelby French, a 61 from Rissa Berg and a 62 from Ali Rentschler.

With a road match against Cascade on Tuesday, home matches against Owen Valley on Wednesday and versus conference foe Edgewood on Thursday before the conference tourney on Saturday, Trout feels his team has room for quick improvement on the greens.

"We need to work on our putting," said Trout. "This time of year the greens are fast and we have to adapt to that. We have a lot to prepare for with the WIC on Saturday and with Edgewood coming on Thursday, they'll be our competition for conference."
