Officials believe that speeding could be the cause of an early Wednesday morning accident that remains under investigation by the Clay County Sheriff's Department.
According to information provided to The Brazil Times, shortly after 7 a.m., Deputy Brad Hardey responded to a single vehicle accident on State Road 340.
Franklyn J. Bailey, 21, Terre Haute, was traveling eastbound when he lost control of the 1991 Dodge Stealth he was driving.
Hardy said the vehicle left the roadway, flipped end over end and ultimately ejected Bailey.
Members of Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department, Clay County Search and Rescue assisted in stabilizing Bailey's medical condition at the scene before TransCare took him to St. Vincent Clay Hospital.
Bailey was later taken by LifeLine air ambulance to Clarian Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, for further medical treatment in the critical care unit.
At this time, Hardey said speeding is believed to be a factor in the accident that remains under investigation.
