He was born in War Eagle, W. Va., on Jan. 17, 1933.
Steve was a coal miner in West Virginia until moving to the Indiana area in the late 50s, where he began working as a welder for Hoosier Fence, Indianapolis.
He also worked in Parke County as a mechanic for the highway department.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 2, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1127, Brazil Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge, and the Moose Lodge No. 780.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing. He was known to many of his friends as "Fred Astaire."
Survivors include his daughter Donna Faye Kraus and husband Gary, Yale, Mich., grandchildren Lisa Louie, Tampa, Fla., Dynnette Hicks, Brazil, Eric Walters, East Point, Mich., and Christopher Boling, Yale, Mich., great-grandchildren Cody, Terry, Rachael, Candace, Amanda and Melissa, step-son Jerry Craig and wife Cathy, Brazil, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and good friends.
Services will be at French Funeral Home, Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Richard Pippin officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m., Sunday, and again Monday, from 7:30 a.m. until time of services.
