American Legion Riders prepare for charity events

American Legion Riders Post 2 is sponsoring or assisting with several upcoming charity events.

"We are excited," American Legion Riders Post 2 Treasurer Deb Smith told The Brazil Times. "We hope to see a lot of the community come out."

On Sept. 7, a motorcycle ride and hog roast will take place at the Post, 1015 s. Forest Ave., Brazil, with live music from 2-6 p.m.

"Motorcycle registration is from 10-11 a.m., with the ride starting out then," Smith said. "The cost of the ride is $15 single/$20 couple, and it includes the hog roast."

The inaugural Clay County Red Cross Ride will take place Sept. 27.

"This is our way of giving back to the Red Cross for all of the work they have done for the community," Smith said. "Especially with the (June) flooding."

Registration is from 10-11 a.m. the price is $15 single/$20 couple/$30 for cars. To sponsor the ride and have your business name on the charity ride shirt, contact the Wabash Valley Red Cross at (812) 232-3393.

For the first time the Popcorn festival will have a Bike Cruise.

"This is something new," American Legion Riders Post 2 member Stacey Freeman told The Brazil Times. "If it is a success then we hope to make it an annual event."

Flag pins will be passed out to the first 100 riders.

"We are hoping that people will want to come and show of the pins proudly," Freeman said.

Another ride is scheduled for Oct. 18 but details are not available yet. It will Benefit the soldiers and families of deployed soldiers of the 138th Quartermaster Company, Indiana National Guard, Brazil.

"We want to get the word out and let people know that this is going on," Smith said "The best way to help our men and women overseas is to start at home."

The legion is also planning on selling Air Evac Memberships. Air Evac is a medical helicopter service that provides air ambulance service to rural areas. Members, in an emergency situation, who use the services, will not be billed for the flight.
