She was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Clay County, the daughter of Elmer Oscar "Jum" Lister and Eva Marie Flack Lister.
She graduated from Brazil High School class of 1945. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Delta Theta Tau Sorority from 1945-1968 when she became part of the Beta Alumni group. She was a past president of both groups.
Jean was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Richard E. Modesitt, Jr., and her husband, Richard E. Modesitt on July 5, 2008.
She is survived by her son, Robert Modesitt,, Winter Park, Fla., mother-in-law, Mazo Modesitt, grandchildren, Paula Ruedebusch and husband Dave, Fort Collins, Colo., Sarah Huston and husband Joe, Deltona, Fla., brother, Jim Lister and wife Jane Chesterfield, Mo., daughter-in-law, Barbara Bowlen and husband Jim, Bloomington, Ind., brother-in-laws, Robert Modesitt, Simpsonville, S.C., John Modesitt and wife Jane, Syracuse, Ind., and Joe Modesitt and wife Janice, St. Louis, Mo., sister-in-law, Irene Mix, Brazil, many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held, Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at 1 p.m., at French Funeral Home with Gary Scroggins officiating. Burial will follow in Croy's Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, from 4-8 p.m., and Sunday prior to services.
