A steady drizzle at Craig Park's cross country course didn't faze North Clay's Nic Yocom, or for that matter, the rest of his teammates as the seventh-grader led the Knights to a team win over South Vermillion on Thursday evening.

A slippery course couldn't slow down a fantastic early season time for Yocom, who finished first with a time of 10:56 to lead a 20 to 36 Knights' win over the Wildcats in the dual meet.

Teammate Ian Heffner took second overall in 12:09 as North Clay took sixth of the top-10 spots individually.

The North Clay girls fell short of a strong Wildcats' effort, scoring 36 to South Vermillion's 20.

The Wildcat girls scored the top-three spots in the event, won by Emily Vitaniemi's 13:25. Her teammate Mariah Wright was 18 seconds back in second as Mallory Cammack took third for South Vermilion.

The top North Clay runner was Emily Conrad, who finished in fourth-place in 14:02 overall. In sixth-place was Raegan Brown for the Knights in 14:38 with Olivia Howald taking seventh in 14:50. In eighth-place was Kourtney Clark in 14:59 to cap North Clay's top-10 finishers.

The boys' top-10 also included Brendan Morris' 12:58, good for a sixth-place. Just seconds behind in seventh was teammate Paul Dickison's 13:03 followed by a ninth-place by Bryce Toppas in 13:17 and Kade Chastain's 10th-place in 13:44.

Both North Clay teams return to action on Saturday after a one-day break, to compete in the Eagles Classic at 9 a.m.
