SPENCER -- Northview bounced back from a tough loss in Greencastle over the weekend to claim a Western Indiana Conference victory on Monday night, downing Owen Valley, 5-1.

The win was especially important in the conference race as Northview handed the Patriots their first WIC loss of the year, dropping them to 2-1 overall while the Knights improve to 2-0.

Playing on a field that is smaller than most teams are used to playing on, the Knights spent the early stages of the game making adjustments before denting the scoreboard 20 minutes into the match.

Robert Plummer made a nice pass into Brandon Hathaway, whose flick found Josh Lynch for the game's opening goal.

The Patriots' keeper kept the game close over the remainder of the first half with some outstanding play. However, the Knights were just getting warmed up for a second half barrage.

Northview was without one of its top scorers in Ken Wright, who sat out after receiving a yellow card. But Wright's teammates more than made up for his absence offensively.

Continued pressure in Owen Valley's end resulted in a goal by Nick Hensler on assists from Lynch and Drew Snyder.

Snyder was the next Knight to find the scoring column, aided by assists from Brandon Hathaway and Lynch once more.

Northview wasn't finished just yet as Hathaway got a score of his own before adding a second late in the game aided by pressure from Plummer and Snyder.

Northview hits the WIC trail with road matches at conference favorite Edgewood tonight in a boy/girl doubleheader, Brown County on Saturday and South Vermillion on Sept. 23.

Over the weekend, the Knights dropped a 6-1 decision to a solid Greencastle squad under windy conditions on the road.

Snyder had five shots and two steals for the Knights and Levi Pollard added six saves and four steals with Plummer contributing a shot, six saves and a steal. Cainan Reeves made 17 saves on 19 shots.
