She was born Nov. 11, 1953, in New Orleans, the daughter of Lester and Priscilla Vaughn. Penny earned her Associate's Degree in Nursing at LSU and then later earned her BSN at Northwestern State University. She was proud to have served in the Louisiana Army National Guard for 8 years, leaving only for medical reasons.
On Aug. 16, 1997, she and Steven Hoskins were joined in marriage. Together they moved to Clay County in 2005. She had recently worked in the emergency room at Putnam County Hospital. She was a member of the Emergency Nurses Association and was an active member of American Legion Post No. 2. She was very proud to be a nurse and held her profession to very high standards.
Penny enjoyed oil painting, using acrylic paint as well and spending time with her miniature schnauzers. Her favorite names to be called were, Momma, Miss Penny and Mimi.
Survivors include her husband Steve Hoskins, Brazil, daughter Samantha Bradley, New Orleans, step-children, Chad Hoskins, Brownsburg, Ind., Stephanie Hoskins, Chalmette, La., Shannon Hoskins, Lacombe, La., and Joel Hoskins, Covington, La., grandchildren, Nathan Bradley, Connor Bradley, Alyssa Hoskins, Taylor Hoskins, Jacob Hoskins, Matthew Hoskins, Hailey Hoskins, Laiken Hoskins, Jayda Vickery, and Kaden Hoskins, and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m., at French Funeral Home, with Pastor Tony Alstott officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 4-8 p.m., and again Friday prior to services.
