Two die following Sunday accident

Monday, September 22, 2008

Officials released the names of two Clay County residents killed in a fatal two-vehicle accident in Parke County Sunday afternoon.

Although details are limited due to an ongoing investigation, the names of the victims were released late Sunday night after members of the Parke County Sheriff's Department were able to contact the victim's family members.

Steven R. Swaim Jr., 35, Brazil, and Jane A. Oday, 56, Carbon, was pronounced dead at the St. Vincent Clay Hospital from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle wreck in an area near State Road 59 South and County Road 700 East in Parke County around 3 p.m., Sunday.

Clay County Coroner Rick Swearingen confirmed to The Brazil Times Monday afternoon that autopsies are scheduled for both individuals to help determine the cause of death.

Pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr is scheduled to perform both procedures Tuesday morning at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Preliminary results should be released by the Clay County Coroner's Office after completion of Kohr's report.

For Swaim's complete obituary information, see page 3.

I'm very sorry for the families to live with this accident that sent their kids or loved ones to be with god. I will pray for you and your families.
