Born in Clay County July 2, 1939, he was the son of George D. and Montana A. Smith McLin.
He attended Staunton High School. He also served his country in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper and was stationed in Alaska. On June 12, 1962, he married Linda K. Coward McLin. He worked as a Correctional Officer and retired as a Captain at Indiana Boys School. He enjoyed being a scout master, working in his garden, fishing, reading and being with his family, but, what he enjoyed most of all was being a husband, father and grandfather. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed for his strong spirit, sense of humor and devotion to his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Larry McLin, Johnny McLin, and Perry Arnold McLin and a brother in law Johnny Coward.
Survivors include his wife Linda, son Robert L. McLin Jr. and Michele Johnson, and daughter Tammy K. McLin Meeks and husband Mark, grandchildren Blake Allen Meeks and Brandon Lee Shaw, brothers and sisters: Jenetta Starr, Linda Lou Ellingsworth, Ronald McLin, Wanda J. McLin, Donald McLin, George D. McLin Jr., Madonna Yockey and Dale Yockey as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will be at French Funeral Home, Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at 4 p.m., with Brother Buddy Kline officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 2 p.m., until time of services.
