Robert M. Patten, 85, Cloverdale, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Mill Pond Health Campus, Greencastle.
Born March 24, 1923, in Morgan County, Ind., he was the son of Grover Paul Patten and Minnie Marie (McGinnis) Patten.
On Aug. 24, 1951, he married LaVaughn Smith. She survives.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in India and Burma with Merrill's Marauders.
He was the co-owner/operator and President of Smith Farm Machinery Corp., Cloverdale.
He was a member of the Cloverdale Church of Christ, past President of the Cloverdale Little League and Cloverdale Lions Club, and a past director of First National Bank for 22 years, Masonic Lodge No. 440, F.&A.M., Eminence, Hurst-Collins Post No. 281, and the American Legion, Cloverdale.
He is survived by his wife LaVaughn Patten, son Kevin M. Patten and wife Joyce, Cloverdale, son Kenneth M. Patten and wife Pattie, Cloverdale, sister Ruth "Patty" Drook, Indianapolis, and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Minnie Patten, and sister Mary K. Mabe.
Services will take place at 11 a.m., Monday, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, with Brother A.J. Cox officiating. Burial will take place at Cloverdale Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
