The Northview Knights hit the road to take on a highly successful Guerin Catholic squad that had a 10-1-1 mark coming into the contest on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights played toe-to-toe with the Eagles and had them frustrated with a 3-3 halftime tie. However, Guerin Catholic came out flying in the second half, scoring three early goals before adding another five minutes later for a 7-3 decision.
The Eagles took the advantage at the 33-minute mark with the first strike, but the Knights got a great through ball to a racing Brandon Hathaway. Drew Snyder gathered the ball in and tapped it home with 24 minutes remaining in the half.
Guerin Catholic was awarded a penalty kick minutes later, but Northview keeper, Cainan Reeves, smothered the attempt to keep the score tied at 1-all.
The Knights later took the lead when Robert Plummer fed the ball ahead to Hathaway, who combined to send a shot over to Josh Lynch, who found the net for a 2-1 lead.
The Eagles rebounded to score the next two goals with time dwindling in the first half, but Northview got the tying goal before the break as Plummer and Hathaway teamed to get Snyder the ball for the third goal.
The second half was a much different story for the Knights who saw the Eagles strike three times quickly to take control of the game before adding the final score minutes later to claim the win.
The Knights celebrate Senior Night this evening at 5 p.m. against Sullivan. The game will also represent YMCA and Putnam County Youth Soccer Association night at the game. All YMCA and PCYSA players wearing their team shirts are free with a paying adult.
