TERRE HAUTE -- Brazil residents Ron and Elizabeth Maurey will perform a song recital at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Center for Performing Fine Arts on the campus of Indiana State University.

The building is located at the corner of Seventh and Chestnut streets. Parking is available directly east of the center, on the east side of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Elizabeth, 17, is a senior at Northview High School. A member of the school choirs, she has also performed as a vocal soloist with the Northview Marching Knights and jazz band. She is currently a member of the College Chorale of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College and the Madrigal Singers.

She is active in the Big Walnut Missionary Baptist Church, Reelsville, and often appears as a soloist during Sunday morning worship services both there and at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Brazil.

Elizabeth is the 2008 winner of the Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition, which took place at ISU in May. In addition to working with her father, she has studied voice with Michael Boswell at St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Mark Carlisle of ISU, and Harriet Calder of Bloomington.

She has sung in master classes with Caroline Smith of DePauw University, Greencastle, and other clinicians at the National High School Convention of Classical Singers, which took place in New York City in May.

Her future plans are to attend college and pursue a career in vocal performance.

Ron is a 1983 graduate of ISU, where he studied piano with Stella Tatlock, and the piano in ensemble with William Hughes and Robert C. Smith. He has also studied piano privately with Robert C. Smith and Beverley Simms.

As an accompanist during his years at ISU, he was active in the voice studios of Harriet Calder and Ethel C. Smith. More recently, he has accompanied students of Marian Krajewska at St. Mary-of-the-Woods and at ISU with Peggy Balensuela and Mark Carlisle.

Ron has been an independent music teacher in the Brazil and Terre Haute areas since 1977 and continues to teach privately from his home studio.

In addition to his work as a private teacher and church musician, Ron has been part of the music area at St. Mary-of-the-Woods since 1994, where he serves as the accompanist in the Department of Music and Theatre, and coaches singers in collaboration with Michael Boswell, assistant professor of voice.

A full-time faculty member of SMWC since 2000, Ron also teaches applied and class piano and regularly performs with the Chorale and Madrigal Singers.
