Charlotte Ellen Pitts, 83, Brazil, passed away at 4:45 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, following an extended illness.

Born in Morristown, Ind., June 16, 1925, she was the daughter of Harry Edgar and Fannie Ellen (Brown) Carmony. She graduated in 1943 from Morristown High School and attended Olivet Nazarene University. On Sept. 5, 1947, she married Jesse Pitts. She finished her college career at Indiana State University, graduating in 1967 with a Bachelors degree in education. Mrs. Pitts taught third grade at Staunton Elementary School for 20 years, retiring in 1987. She was an active member of the Brazil Nazarene Church and served as the congregational pianist for 40 years. She enjoyed being with friends and family, cooking, traveling, playing the piano and homemaking.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Paul Joseph Carmony, Edwin Brown Carmony, Cecil Harold Carmony, Harry Neil Carmony, Marvin Dale Carmony and Byron M. Carmony, and sisters Nida Lois Carmony and Helen Esther Nigh.

Survivors include her husband Jesse Pitts, Brazil, sons Mark Ellett Pitts and wife Nancy, Nairobi, Kenya, and Brent Alan Pitts and wife Ruth, Raleigh, N.C., daughter Jane Ellen Williams and husband Mark, San Antonio, Texas, grandchildren Benjamin Pitts, Nathan Amondson, Andrew Amondson, Isaac Amondson, Rachel Amondson, Francesca Morgan, Anna Heule, Amanda Biedess, Jordan Pickett, Ryan Williams and Lauren Williams, great-granddaughters Rhiannon Bell and Madeleine Biedess, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Services will be at the Brazil Nazarene Church Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at 11 a.m., with Reverands Gary Bechtel and George Hewitt officiating. Graveside services will take place at Asbury Cemetery, Morristown, Ind., at 3 p.m., Saturday.

Visitation will be at French Funeral Home Friday, from 4-8 p.m., and again Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pitts Scholarship Fund in care of the Brazil Nazarene Church, 1002 E. National Ave., Brazil, 47834. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
