VINCENNES -- Candidates for United States Representative from Indiana's 8th Congressional District will debate in Vincennes on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
Congressman Brad Ellsworth (D-Evansville) will square off with challenger Greg Goode (R-Terre Haute).
The League of Women Voters of Knox County (Vincennes), Southwest Indiana (Evansville), Vigo County (Terre Haute) and Greencastle will host the live, televised debate, beginning at 7 p.m.
The debate site will be at Vincennes University's Red Skelton Performing Arts Center.
The following television stations will televise the debate live: WVUT (PBS) Vincennes, WNIN (PBS) Evansville, and WTHI (CBS) Terre Haute. The debate will also be aired on the public radio stations in the designated areas. WTIU (PBS) Bloomington will broadcast the debate on a one-hour delay.
The debate format and rules were designed by the League of Women Voters with the goal of providing maximum time for both candidates to answer questions for the live television audience. The debate date, format and rules were agreed upon by both campaigns. Tuesday's debate is the only debate between the two candidates.
The League of Women Voters is a community-based, nonpartisan political organization that has worked since 1920 to improve the system of government and public policies through education and advocacy. The League promotes active and informed citizen participation in government.
Seating for the debate will be by invitation only.
