TERRE HAUTE -- The North Clay seventh-grade football team remained unbeaten this season after traveling to Terre Haute and coming away with a 24-6 victory.
The Knights strung together a sustained drive after receiving the ball to open the contest.
Connor Pierce capped the drive with a touchdown run and the two-point conversion came from Tanner Wilson for an 8-0 lead.
West Vigo bounced back to convert its own touchdown as North Clay had difficulty stopping the run during the opening drive. The Vikings two-point conversion failed and the Knights kept the lead at 8-6 to end the first quarter.
In the second period, each team traded possessions before Jeremy Maffioli was able to haul in a touchdown pass from quarterback Jim Mace. Wilson added another conversion as North Clay grabbed a 16-6 halftime advantage.
Opening the second half, the teams again see-sawed, looking for an advantage after several fumbles.
North Clay's defense began to exert its will on the Vikings and kept their running game from mounting any momentum.
The Knights also grabbed three of the team's four interceptions as Chase Haring grabbed two picks and Pierce added another. Jason Sampson had the game's first interception for the Knights.
In the fourth quarter, a fumble recovery by Ty Tipton set North Clay up in good field position and Pierce took advantage for his third touchdown of the game and added the two-point conversion for the 24-6 victory.
North Clay travels to Sullivan on Oct. 8 to visit the Arrows.
Results of the eighth-grade contest were not reported.
