Northview's tennis team is headed to the sectional championship match after defeating Greencastle 5-0 on Wednesday evening.

The doubles teams made short work of the Tigers Cubs, completing their matches in less than 45 minutes along with No. 3 singles player, Carson Kleiber.

The No. 1 and No. 2 matches provided the most entertainment of the evening as Austin Akers and Clint Reynolds fought off the diligent efforts of their opponents for 6-3 victories.

"(Greencastle) didn't have their No. 1 player (David Cath) when we played them last time," said coach Mark Orr of the Tiger Cubs. "They rearranged some things. I'm pretty shocked that we beat them 5-0. This was a good win for us.

Clint Reynolds won his No. 2 singles match to help lead the Knights to a 5-0 win over Greencastle.
Reynolds used a big serve to help him rally from a 3-2 deficit in the first set to win 6-3. He then served out three consecutive aces to open the second set on the way to a 6-3 victory.

Akers got ahead 4-1 in the first game before Cath bounced back to win a point. However, Akers continued on to win the first set, 6-3.

Cath took the advantage in the second game, leading 2-1, but Akers knotted the score at 2-all before hitting his stride. Akers' success at several long rallies down the stretch earned him the final victory of the night, 6-3, 6-3.

"I set a goal for Clint early in the year to be the first player off the court, because he's usually the last one off," said coach Mark Orr. "Clint really likes to volley.

"Austin is really playing better right now and is peaking at the right time," continued Orr.

Northview's doubles teams made short work of their opponents in straight sets.

At No. 1 doubles, Caleb Mershon and Matt Nodley scored a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Victor Ness and Joseph Kass. At No. 2 doubles, Caleb Andrews and Joey Thomas won 6-0, 6-0 over Dustin York and Cyrus Spencer.

"Northview has got some nice players," said Greencastle coach Bart Spencer. "You can tell they have been playing a lot of tennis for a long time."

"Our doubles teams stayed strong," said Orr. "And we had some great fan support just like all season."

The Knights play for the sectional championship on Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
