Lower flags Sunday

Friday, October 3, 2008

On Sunday, all Federal buildings will lower the United States Flag to half-mast in observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

On Oct. 16, 2001, President George W. Bush approved legislation requiring flags to be lowered as a way to memorialize fallen firefighters in conjunction with observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

Officials urge flags on display at homes, local government offices, fire departments and businesses across the country also be lowered as a way to recognize the brave men and women firefighters who have died in the line of duty protecting their communities from natural and man-made emergencies and disasters while honoring those who continue to carry on the proud tradition.
