The family of Stanley W. Watts, retired Purdue University Cooperative Extension Educator, invites all of Stan's friends to an Open House Reception celebrating his 90th birthday. The celebration will be Sunday, Oct. 26, from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Private Dining Room at Four Seasons Retirement Center, 1901 Taylor Rd. in Columbus.

Stan was born Oct. 29, 1918 in Waddy, Ky., to Walter B. and Maude W. Watts. Just two years later, the family moved to a farm on the Ohio River in Clark County, Ind. He received a B.S. in Agriculture (Animal Science) from Purdue University in 1942 and began active duty in the US Navy upon graduation.

In 1943, Stan married Laura Frances Ray, Greenwood and they began their 65+ years of married life. Laura and their five children -- Kitty Watts Decker, Annie Watts Cloncs, Dave Watts, Jean Watts Morris and Deborah Watts Ross -- along with their spouses are hosting the birthday celebration.

Following his World War II military service, Stan began his Cooperative Extension Service career as an assistant county agent in Rush County and then county agent in Union County. Stan earned an M.S. in Community Development from the University of Louisville. From 1975-84, he was the County Extension Coordinator in Clay County, Brazil. He retired from Extension in 1984.

Stan and Laura returned to Columbus after his retirement and enjoyed travels throughout the US and Canada often with the Thousand Trails Camping Association. The Watts' moved to the Four Seasons Retirement Center in 2006.

Those attending the reception will be able to enjoy Watts' family photos and scrapbooks. Guests are asked to share cards, photos and memories but please no gifts.
