The following is a list of upcoming events and announcements provided to The Brazil Times:

* Share Food signups

Share Food signups for October will be from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, at First Christian Church, Brazil.

Food distribution will be from 9-10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at First Christian Church, Brazil.

Share food is in need of people placing orders and in greater need of workers for distribution day.

* Department breakfast ready

The Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department will conduct its monthly breakfast Saturday, from 7-11 a.m.

The menu will consist of biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage and pancakes.

Freewill offerings will be accepted.

* Early voting

Early voting is available at the Election Office, located on the second floor of the Clay County Courthouse, every Monday-Friday, through Oct. 31, from 8-11 a.m., and noon-4 p.m.

There will also be two Saturdays, Oct. 25 and Nov. 1, where polls will be open at the same location, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., as well as from 8 a.m.-noon, Nov. 3, the day prior to the general election.

* Special meeting in Knightsville

The Knightsville Town Council has scheduled a special meeting to consider Ordinance 5-2008, regarding water rates and charges of the customers of the Knightsville Waterworks.

The meeting will take place at the Knightsville Community Center, beginning at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15.

* New Curfew imposed in town

In an attempt to corral mischief, the Knightsville Town Board recently announced new daily curfew hours during its monthly meeting.

Stricter than the curfew imposed by the State of Indiana, officials said the new curfew hours would be enforced throughout the entire month of October.

Children age 12 and under are not allowed out without adult supervision between the hours of 9 p.m.-6 a.m.

Children age 13 and over are not allowed out without adult supervision between the hours of 10 p.m.-6 a.m.

* Genealogy meeting

TERRE HAUTE -- The Wabash Valley Genealogy Society will have an open forum meeting Monday, in the Vigo County Public Library (main branch), from 6-8 p.m.

The forum is open to the public and several members will be present to answer questions on genealogy, help with brick walls and assist in startup.

There is no cost to attend the session.

* Staunton Food Pantry

Until further notice, the Staunton Community Food Pantry at the Staunton United Methodist Church will be open only the last two Wednesdays of each month.

However, due to the holidays, it will be open the last Tuesday of the month in November and December.

The schedule is as follows:

* 2008 -- Wednesday, Oct. 29, Tuesday, Nov. 25, Tuesday, Dec. 30, and

* 2009 -- Wednesday, Jan. 29, Wednesday, Feb. 25, and March 25.

* Leaf pickup in city scheduled

In the upcoming weeks, the City of Brazil will be picking up leaves.

Pickups on the north side of town will take place Oct. 13-17, Oct. 27-31, and Nov. 10-14, while pickups on the south side of town will be Oct. 20-24, Nov. 3-7, and Nov. 17-21.

Also, from Nov. 24-26 and Dec. 1-5, the city will be accepting calls for individual pickups.

* Heating Assistance

The Energy Assistance Program of Western Indiana Community Action Agency, Inc., is assisting with winter heating and energy costs.

The heating assistance program began Monday, but WICAA is taking calls.

The number to call for assistance is 443-0122.

* Property Complaints

The Brazil City Office of Planning and Zoning has issued a reminder to citizens that they can call in complaints they may have about properties.

The planning and zoning interim administrator encourages all residents to contact the office at 446-0050 or via e-mail at ericv@brazil.in.gov.

All complaints will remain anonymous.

* Diabetes Class Set at hospital

St. Vincent Clay Hospital recently announced the next class on Diabetes education will take place in October.

"What You Should Know About Type 2 Diabetes," will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22.

The four-week class will meet Oct. 22, Oct. 29, Nov. 5, and Nov. 12.

Class size is limited, but are free of charge.

* Veteran's Program

Clay County residents are invited to attend Van Buren Elementary School's Veteran's Day program, scheduled to take place from 10-11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 10, at the Van Buren Elementary gymnasium.

The school will be welcoming and honoring anyone who has served or is serving in any branch of the United States Armed Forces.

The school is also extending an invitation for those who plan on attending to stay and have lunch, provided by the school.

Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP to Van Buren Elementary or by calling 448-1362.

* Merit meeting moved

Due to the new deputy hiring process, the Clay County Sheriff's Merit Board will meet Monday, Nov. 10, rather than Monday, Nov. 3.
