Lloyd Richard Shamel, 86, Brazil, formerly of Greencastle, died on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008.
Mr. Shamel was born Oct. 23, 1921, in Greencastle, to Edgar and Mabel Lawton Shamel.
He retired from Conrail Railroad as a signalman with 42 years of service, which began with the New York Central Railroad. He was a member of Zorah Shrine Temple, Terre Haute, and the Oriental Shrine Band.
His parents, son Richard Shamel, granddaughter Kimberly Shamel, sisters Rachel O'Neal and Marjorie Beason, and two infant brothers preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years Mary, children Rebecca Hughes and Mark, Brazil, Jim Shamel and Edna, Greencastle, Carolyn Hughes, Texas, Brenda Gooch and Steve, Crawfordsville, James Mackey and Diane, Greencastle, and Marcia Frost Bill, Tennessee, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
