CRAWFORDSVILLE -- Northview's volleyball team split four matches in tourney play during the weekend.
The Knights defeated Turkey Run and Cambridge City Lincoln, but lost their final two matches against the host North Montgomery squad and Fishers.
Coach Scott McDonald was not pleased with the results by his team over the weekend.
"I was not happy with our play overall," said McDonald. "I thought there were times where we played very well, and then times where we looked lost as to what we wanted to do. The kids have played well all year and have started to believe in what we want to do. I think that we were humbled a little bit at this tournament that we cannot walk in the gym and expect the other teams to give up."
The Knights opened with a 25-17, 25-16 win over Turkey Run before dropping Cambridge City Lincoln, 27-25, 23-25, 15-7. The final two games went to Northview's opponents, 20-25, 20-25 to North Montgomery and 25-20, 12-25, 10-15 to Fishers.
"We have to play hard from the first point to the last point," said McDonald. "Our serving was not good at all, we had 19 service errors. In our serve receive we had far too many passes not going to target. We became too one dimensional with our lack of quality passes.
The Knights got 29 kills, eight aces and nine digs from Brittaney Long and 22 kills, two blocks, five digs and five aces from Hannah Emmert. Ashlen Buck contributed a team-high 41 digs and Hannah Hayes had a team-high 51 assists to go with nine kills, nine digs and four aces. Ali Sharton added 23 assists for the Knights and had four kills, five digs and eight aces.
Also for the Knights, Alyssa Clarke had 15 kills, 14 blocks, six aces and three digs with Emily Chiles adding 28 digs. Samantha Solomon had seven kills, 10 blocks and two aces. Lizzie Emmert had six kills for Northview along with five assists and Kaylee Clark had 20 digs and four kills.
Sectional draws were made on Monday afternoon and the Knights drew Plainfield (9-15-1), a team that they will also see on the road on Thursday evening.
The sectional takes place at Terre Haute South this year. Mooresville takes on Terre Haute North in the other first round match-up. Martinsville and Terre Haute South face each other in the bye bracket match.
McDonald feels his team will be ready for postseason play.
"We are going to start getting ready for the tournament. I like our chances in the sectional with our defense and serve receive going to be ready," said McDonald. "We will have to be aggressive on offense and just not tip so much."
The Knights are 24-5 overall and are off until Thursday's road trip against the Quakers.
